How to use it

1. Type your clock-in time. Formats are flexible: 9, 9am, 0900, or 09:00.
2. Type your clock-out. If it is earlier than the start, an overnight shift is assumed and 24 hours are added.
3. The hours for that shift appear immediately in hh:mm and decimal.
4. Press Add shift to total several shifts, or Clear to start over.

When you want hours without the extras

Sometimes you do not need a full timesheet. You clocked in, you clocked out, and you want the number. This calculator strips everything else away: no lunch field, no rounding, no overtime toggles. Start minus end, with overnight shifts handled, shown two ways.

The math it runs

Each shift is the clock-out minus the clock-in, measured in minutes. A 9:00 start and a 17:30 end is 510 minutes, which is 8:30 in hours-and-minutes or 8.5 in decimal. When the end is earlier than the start — say 22:00 to 06:00 — the tool adds a full day (1,440 minutes) so the result is a clean 8:00 instead of a negative number.

Decimal hours for payroll

Payroll and invoicing systems usually want decimal hours, not minutes. The rule is simple: minutes divided by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25, thirty is 0.5, forty-five is 0.75. The decimal hours converter has the full minute-by-minute chart if you would rather look it up.
